The Terminator, and former Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger says Congress is so unpopular that it “couldn’t beat herpes in the polls.” Other things Arnold says elected officials in Congress also couldn’t defeat in a poll: Hemorrhoids, Nickelback, traffic jams, cockroaches, root canals, and colonoscopies!
What’s to blame for the American public’s total disapproval of Congress? According to Schwarzenegger, it is redistricting.
“Gerrymandering has created an absurd reality where politicians now pick their voters, instead of the voters picking their politicians,” the Republican says in a video released Tuesday by ATTN.
“You thought every two years in November, you’re going to the polls to pick your representatives, right? Wrong!”
“Using gerrymandering, our politicians drew their district lines so safely, that even while congressional approval ratings went sometimes down into the single digits, they couldn’t lose,” Arnold says, referring to California. The then says that California “fixed” the issue by taking redistricting away from the state legislature.
“We took the power of drawing the district lines away from the politicians and gave it back to the people, where it belongs”.
He closes with, “We’ve proven that gerrymandering can be permanently terminated.”
Will other states take the power of redistricting away from their state legislatures and stop gerrymandering? Check out these absurdly drawn congressional districts:
