The Bronx, N.Y. — An extreme case of what appears to be vigilante justice occurred on Monday when a Bronx man literally beat an intruder to death.
The man’s wife says the intruder was attempting to rape her and that she and her sister fought off the would-be rapist for over 20 minutes, frantically making phone calls to alert loved ones about the attack.
Her husband, Mamadou Diallo, reportedly came home in time to stop the attack, confronting the intruder, 43-year-old Earl D. Nash.
Witnesses say the attempted rapist even tried to lure a young girl into a stairway.
According to local news affiliate PIX11, Mamadou Diallo confronted the man in a hallway of the apartment building, ultimately pummeling the man with a metal pipe.
Diallo’s wife says she also called the police around the same time she called her husband, but by the time they arrived it was already too late.
The severely beaten Nash was taken to Lincoln Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Mamadou Diallo was later arrested and charged with manslaughter for the assault of the would-be rapist.
