Police in the Las Vegas suburb of Henderson, Nevada are hoping you don’t watch this video. The footage shows two police officers releasing a K-9 dog on a man who had committed no crime. Instead of attacking the innocent man, the dog mauled his 17-month-old daughter.
“My baby,” Arturo Arenas-Alvarez screamed in English when the Henderson K-9 charged his sport utility vehicle.
“I’ve got my baby!” he pleaded with the police.
“There’s an infant in that car! There’s an infant in that car!” one officer yelled to his partner who had released the dog on the law-abiding man and his daughter.
But it was too late.
The dog had already attacked Arenas-Alvarez’s 17-month-old daughter, Ayleen, gnawing on her right arm.
The little girl was left with nine punctures and abrasions, according to the family lawyer.
The Henderson Police have agreed to pay the $13,000 the innocent man requested to settle the legal claim.
But after lawyer fees, only $8,537.69 will go a bank account for Ayleen.
Police said that they thought the man was a robbery suspect they were trying to find. He wasn’t. Neither was his daughter.
Sgt. James Mitchell got out of his cruiser and released the dog to attack the man – and his daughter. There was absolutely no reason for this, but he is facing zero consequences for his actions.
Police Chief Patrick Moers has merely conceded that Mitchell “should have communicated better with fellow officers.”
“In my opinion, the dog was used too fast,” the chief asserted to the Las Vegas Review-Journal
